What Are the Symptoms of Allergies?

What are the symptoms of allergies? For the most part, what people generally think of as allergy symptoms, like itchy eyes and sneezing, are actually signs of allergies. Allergies are more complicated than that. Allergy symptoms can involve not just the eyes, but also the nose, throat, mouth and even the skin. These allergy symptoms may be associated with the very allergies one has, or they may occur simultaneously.

The most well-known allergy symptom is the itching and burning sensation that allergies produce in the body. Other symptoms can include the onset of a red rash, watery eyes, and swelling of the face and throat. It is important to note that the onset of these symptoms can differ from one individual to another. Some individuals experience allergic reactions after they have been out in the cold, whereas others experience them only when exposed to a specific allergen. There are many types of allergies. The most common allergy is to animal dander, but other allergies can include foods, dust, mold, and cockroaches.

As mentioned above, the symptoms of an allergy can take place along with the actual allergy itself. For instance, the symptoms of pollen allergy might include a runny and itchy nose, difficulty breathing, coughing, and wheezing. Allergic reactions to dust mites can manifest themselves as itchy eyes, nose, eyes, and skin. Allergic reactions to food can lead to nausea, vomiting, stomach cramps, diarrhea and vomiting. And if these allergic reactions go untreated, they could result in the onset of asthma and other related disorders.

As mentioned above, there are a variety of symptoms for each type of allergy. This is why, it is important to seek medical attention when you suspect you might have an allergic reaction to any type of pollen, plant, or animal matter. Most allergens are not harmful at all and do not cause any physical harm on their own. But when exposed to them in the air or by eating or drinking certain things that contain them, they release allergens into the air and into your body, causing you to suffer the symptoms listed above.

It’s important to know what the typical allergy symptoms are to help you to better determine whether or not you are allergic to something. Some of the more common allergic rhinitis symptoms are runny nose, itchy eyes, sneezing and red eyes. People suffering from asthmatic allergies may also experience watery eyes, a red and itchy nose, tightness in the chest, and wheezing.

The symptoms above are just a few of the many allergy symptoms that can appear. If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, it is likely you have seasonal allergies. However, some people are allergic to certain foods and/or animals, which means hives are triggered by eating or drinking these particular foods. The most common of these food and animal allergies are peanut, shellfish, cow’s milk, soy, wheat, eggs and fish. You may also be allergic to dust mites and pollen. Remember that although these symptoms may vary from one individual to another, they generally are very similar and can be easily recognized by a healthcare professional.
