Hi, my name is Dr. Timothy Morley. If you’re suspicious that you’re experiencing some of the symptoms of menopause, you might actually have the symptoms of menopause. There are so many symptoms – there’s over a hundred symptoms in menopause – and so many women have these symptoms and they think they are going crazy. I’m here to say, again, you’re not going crazy – you are just experiencing the normal natural process of going through menopause.
These symptoms include weight gain, 20 pounds is a normal amount of weight to gain when you are going through menopause, hot flashes, night sweats, this leads to insomnia, vaginal dryness, irritability and mood swings – I see that so much in my practice. Depression, depression is a very common sign of menopause. And that’s an important point – when your estrogen and progesterone change, as it does during menopause, those hormones affect other hormones. For example, up to 20% of women who go through menopause experience low thyroid, hypothyroid. When you experience low thyroid, you can experience so many different symptoms, such as your hair falling out, your skin being dry, forgetfulness, intolerance to cold, things like that. So these hormones affect other hormones, it’s like a symphony – you don’t just have one hormonal imbalance, it affects other hormones.
