The second meeting of HSJ Women Leaders’ network saw a focus on discussion about targets and whether it was needed to bring about fair representation of women on NHS leadership boards.
Women make up just 36 per cent of chief execs, 24 per cent of medical directors and 26 per cent of finance directors. In CCGs, just 26 per cent of lead GPs are women.
Supported by NHS Employers, the network is a community for senior and emerging female leaders in health and social care to celebrate their talents, and offer support and encouragement to bring about change in senior leadership. At the meeting Ed Smith, chair of NHS Improvement, offered to help HSJ Women Leaders drive the gender equality agenda in the NHS.
